Alec Baldwin has spoken out on behalf of American quarterback Michael Vick, who was sentenced to jail for animal abuse.
Vick finished out a 23-month jail term on home monitoring after he pled guilty to charges of dog fighting and execution. The NFL has cleared his return to sport, angering some observers.
Baldwin says Vick’s story is an opportunity. He wrote in an article run on the Huffington Post: “Vick did horrific things and he deserved to be punished. He served his time and now I wonder what good does it do to exile him in shame and not let him show his example of how one can be rehabilitated after that kind of behaviour. If Vick returns to his true form as an NFL pro, that platform can mean real progress for the animal rights movement.
“Vick is easy to target as a villain. But the man who should have been setting an example for his young fans about how to comport oneself off the field can still do so. Donating a healthy figure from his enormous salary to any mixture of animal rights groups seems like a good start to me. I have a list for Vick when he is ready.”

Tennis babe Maria Sharapova has cooled her heels on the back of a comeback appearance at Wimbledon after losing her match to Gisela Dulko.
The Argentinian has emerged as “the new glamour queen of SW19″ after a hair-raising scorecard of 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 that was billed the “battle of the babes”.
Dulko, who appears long limbed and swathed in satin in off-court photos, is ranked 45th in the world to Sharapova’s 60th.

She was almost tearful after the loss, saying she was struggling to get back to her form after the shoulder surgery that put her out of competition for several months. “I wasn’t good enough. The losses are tough – more here than at any other tournament.
“Just being here was a wonderful accomplishment. This whole event, there’s nothing I don’t like about it. I enjoy every single minute of it.”
Dulko, 24, said: “The crowd were with me and I started to feel they were with me all the time, and not with her … It was very surprising and very nice. I was feeling great.”
X Factor judge Simon Cowell has reportedly treated fellow judges Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh to a day at Wimbledon – but not fourth judge Dannii Minogue.
Simon, 49, reportedly asked for tickets for himself and pals Cheryl, 26, and Louis, 56 – however there was no mention of Dannii, 37.
A source close to Simon said: “He was really upset having missed the first day at Wimbledon. He’s a keen tennis fan and was eager to see the matches.
“He asked if he could replace his centre court tickets for Friday and said that he would also like to bring along Cheryl and Louis – but there was no mention of Dannii.
“There may be a good reason for this, as she might be busy, but it seems quite odd that she was left out.”
It is also claimed Cheryl is being paid three times more than Dannii for their judging job on the show and Cheryl will receive a whopping £1.2million.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is part of the team campaigning to bring the soccer World Cup back to the United States.
The 61-year-old actor, who is now the Governor of California, wants to bring the FIFA World Cup to the US in either the 2018 or 2022 games.

The exchange of vows between 26-year old Andy Roddick and his 21-year old model girlfriend was witnessed by a group of family and close friends.
Andy Roddick and Brooklyn Decker started dating in 2007 and got engaged in March 2008. The candlelit wedding ceremony was very intimate and solemn. Bright tropical flowers provided a cheerful backdrop to the wedding. The bridesmaids wore chocolate-colored strapless gowns while bride Brooklyn Decker wore a Vera Wang gown. Among the guests were tennis greats Andre Agassi and wife Steffi Graf. Sir Elton John, a longtime friend of Andy Roddick, performed during the wedding. The couple met after Andy Roddick saw Brooklyn Decker’s photo in a Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. Andy Roddick then asked his agent to track down Brooklyn Decker’s number.
Actor Liam Neeson has returned to the family’s favourite holiday spot less than a month since his wife Natasha Richardson’s death.
Liam, 56, was spotted in St Tropez in the south of France with their two sons Michael, 13, and Daniel, 12.
The family were joined by Natasha’s mother Vanessa Redgrave, 72, sister Joely Richardson, 44, and Joely’s daughter Daisy on the Easter holiday, according to British newspaper The Sun.
Natasha died aged 46 after a skiing accident in Canada where she fell and hit her head and later died.
The family have been putting on a brave face since Natasha’s death and Liam had recently taken his sons to see his favourite football team Liverpool play against Fulham.
The recent fiasco involving Olympic medalist Michael Phelps and his infamous bong photo has made him realized one thing at least—not all friends could be trusted. Michael Phelps was photographed holding the joint while he was attending a party where he said he knew most of the guests since there were only up to seven people there at one time. He said it was just a small group with most of them just sitting around and celebrating and taking cellphone pictures. Apparently, one of these cellphone photos reached the tabloids and magazines resulting to the bong scandal.
Michael Phelps, who was dropped by Kelloggs as an endorser as a result of the incident, said he trusted his friends who were there at the party. Apparently, not all of them were trustworthy people and he learned this the hard way. The 14-time Olympic gold medalist said he made a mistake in judgment when he partied and smoked pot. Probably, Michael Phelps wanted to say he made a mistake by getting caught with the pot on his hands.
All’s well that ends well. That may be the case of soccer star David Beckham after being allowed to extend his stay with Milan. David Beckham told NBC’s Matt Lauer that he had a great time at Milan and it was a great experience playing for the team. He said being given the chance to extend his stay up to the end of the season is great. After that he would be back to Galaxy to finish the season and then decide the best thing to do.
David Beckham said his main motivation in planning to leave Galaxy is because he wants to play in his home country especially in the World Cup come 2010. To do that, he said, he has to be playing at the highest level in Europe. This should not be interpreted to mean that he is not committed to his role as an ambassador in the MLS and also to Galaxy but he said he just needs to play at this level. He said he has a lot of respect for AEG president (owner of Galaxy) Tim Leiweke. He said he has an ongoing contract with them and will honor the contract but right now he needs to play for Milan and to focus and try to make the 2010 World Cup.

Mark Wahlberg wants David and Victoria Beckham to leave Los Angeles. The ‘Boogie Nights’ actor claims the couple are causing a huge disturbance in his neighborhood because of the constant attention surrounding them.
Wahlberg is furious with the photographers hanging around his back garden trying to get a picture of the Los Angeles Galaxy player David, 33, and wife Victoria, 34.
When asked if he had met David, Wahlberg jokingly said: “No, but that f***er lives down the road from me, man! He has to go back to the UK, because he has the paparazzi all over my house.”
He added: “I was in the UK for the last week and they don’t want him back there. They said, ‘Keep him over there!’”
Meanwhile, Wahlberg has announced his long-term girlfriend Rhea Durham, 29, is pregnant for the third time. The couple – who already have two children, daughter Ella, four, and two-year-old son Michael – are planning to extend their brood even further.
Wahlberg said: “When the kids are good, we want eight or nine. When they’re bad, we want to stop at three!”
Lily Allen was reportedly thrown off Flavio Briatore’s yacht. The ‘Smile’ singer enraged the Formula 1 boss with her drunken antics in Cannes, France, which included ripping her bikini top off and having to be rescued from the sea.
Lily, who appeared to be intoxicated, jumped overboard the vessel but had to be dragged out of the sea by crew members who feared she was drowning. When she was back on board, embarrassed Flavio made her cover up before asking her to leave.
The incident is the latest in a string of drunken antics for the singer, who is in the French resort for the world famous Cannes Film Festival while she takes a break from recording her second album.
Last week, topless pictures of Lily sunbathing were released, but the pop star laughed off the shots, insisting she was happy to be a pin-up. He was also threatened with a point on his driver’s licence unless he agrees to go to traffic school.
An onlooker said: “David was really co-operative. I think he knew he was in the wrong.”
The Beckham family are no strangers to being pulled over by police.
Shortly before moving to Los Angeles last year, David’s wife Victoria was tailed by cops until she parked on the side of the road and showed the officer her valid licence.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart and his former girlfriend, Brynn Cameron, reached a custody deal over their 10-month-old son, Cole, in Los Angeles court Monday.
“Yes, I can confirm that” an agreement was reached, said Ron Rale, an attorney for Cameron, outside the courtroom after a hearing that lasted less than 10 minutes.
Before the hearing, a source close to the case said that child support issues were resolved “a couple weeks ago” and that Monday’s hearing related to custody arrangements only.
Cameron, 21, who plans a return to USC’s basketball team this fall, looked upbeat as she waited with family members before the hearing.
Leinart, 24, did not show in court. Instead, his attorney Laura Wasser (who is also Britney Spears’s divorce lawyer) was on hand.
In a July interview with the Ventura County Star, Cameron criticized Leinart’s parenting, saying she spends “99.9 percent of the time” with Cole and that “it’s been hard when I’m doing all the work, but he gets all the credit.”
Leinart fired back two days later, telling PEOPLE that he’s “gone to great lengths to increase my custodial time with Cole. This includes seeking intervention from the family law court.”
A source close to Leinart added: “He only wants to spend time with his little boy, that’s it. He flies in from Arizona every week to see his baby. [Cameron's] a great mom, he has nothing bad to say about her.”
The athletic pair dated briefly but split in late 2006.
Soccer star David Beckham made his first league appearance for new team Los Angeles Galaxy on Thursday, but couldn’t save them from defeat. Like in the last five games from the start of the season he hasn’t played a full match as yet, and the idiot fans of America are proving that they are willing to shell out money to see him not play the entire match duration. And just don’t tell me this is Beckham mania cos, even if Tiger woods is not playing at the weekend of a golf tournament the crowds dwindle in their numbers. I love David Beckham for the way he plays with sheer super skills but what I fail to understand why did he come to the training grounds when he was unfit and then have the media report all about his ground training and possibly reporting about his sun tan cream, they just want to write anything in the celebrity column to have the people read about him.
When David and Victoria Beckham moved to the United States, they brought their nose for business with them. Intimately Beckham, the couple’s fragrance line which up until now has only been available across the pond, will be available in U.S. department stores next month, followed by drug stores in January. Sick to death of these people. They are making so much money, and for doing nothing. They certainly know how to con the Americans. Ever since David has arrived from Spanish football giants Real Madrid, he hasn’t played a single match for his new team LA Galaxy expect for appearing for a few minutes on the field. Yet there is still so much interest in the couple as if there were dirt of celebs in Hollywood. Please get over them coz their move to America is just for the money and to cash in on their fame in England and the whole of Europe. Sure he can play soccer, no doubts on that, why can’t he just play the game instead he his busy with adv. campaigns and perfumes.

Not only has she won eight Grand Slams, which is a feat all by itself, the S just made the Forbes Top 100 list. She defines the new brand of female athlete, combining sports and a taste for glamour. With her own clothing line and guest spots on the Simpsons, Law and Order and ER, the California native is going places fast. She won the Aussie Tennis Open Championship without being very active in the months preceding the tournament in January. Her talents in both tennis and fashion are undoubtedly are immense and she is one of the first women tennis player who brought the muscle power into the game. She having fun and has won 8 grand slams till date.
Add one more major name to hop the David Beckham bandwagon: Enrique Iglesias. Since his arrival in the States, David has been scrutinized by fans and celebrities alike. Damn man he has just arrived and a started training so give him sometime and he will prove his metal for sure. He has played professional soccer for the 10-12 years so he knows what’s expected of him, he ain’t a jerk to have all the way to LA to prove he can play world class soccer. Enrique is from Latin America where the game is the most popular sport so and he is an avid follower, so he certainly has an opinion. But for Christ sake give him the space he requires. Under pressure to perform will bog him down more. Enrique is a great singer and performer and should stick to doing what he is best at. If is trying to encourage Beckham but it could miss fire with all the adulation that he is getting and turn the pressure on him. Let a season or two pass and let him get acquainted to America, he could blow the competition apart.
