Actor Val Kilmer has insisted he is serious about becoming a politician.

The Batman Forever star has been rumoured to be running for governor of New Mexico in 2011.

And now he appears to be planning a bid.

He said at a charity event recently: “People seem to want me to.”

Kilmer, 49, who owns a sprawling, 6,000-acre ranch near Santa Fe, New Mexico, first hinted at a run last year.

He told a US newspaper: “It’s been my home for 25 years. I really love my state.

“Poor, hardworking, decent people – native Americans, carpenters, artists, expats mixed in with hundreds of the world’s smartest physicists at Los Alamos.

“I’ve always thought of myself as functioning as a candidate for them.”

He has now reportedly hired a political strategist – and sought the advice of lawmakers among the state’s congressional delegation.

Marc Anthony & Jennifer Lopez star at Inaugural gala

Marc Anthony & Jennifer Lopez were the star attractions at the “la alfombra roja” – the red carpet – at Union Station Sunday which were part of the inauguration pre-celebration on Sunday.

The couple showed no signs at all of the recent media gossip that the two were nearing a divorce rather they looked very much a couple while posing for the cameras. Lopez wore an elegant electric blue strapless gown while Mark was draped in pinstripes.

It was Lopez who made the first appearance and then a short while later she introduced Anthony. Together they both made a pitch for the new president. “Yes we can,” she said to the cheering crowd. “We all stood together and said ‘Yes we will.’”

The celebrations are truly heart warming and show that America stand united to improving the lives of its people and take measures to correct the financial mess and turmoil that’s gripping the country currently.

Have you ever heard of a guy named Barack Obama?

Yes! Its obvious that you have heard his name in the recent months on every news channel of thee world and finally he has been elected as the next “Most Powerful person on Earth”, who is definitely President of United States of America, but do you know him well?

Let me give you a little run down on Mr. Obama here:

He was brought up by his mother and her family, including his beloved grandmother, “Toot,” who died one day before he was elected president.

He graduated from Columbia University, went to Harvard Law School and became the first African-American president of the prestigious Harvard Law Review.

Throughout his election campaign, he had the support of a number of celebs, including Oprah Winfrey, Ben Affleck, Diddy and Scarlett Johansson.

Pink Talks Vice Presidents

A lot of artists have been voicing out their opinions on the Republican Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin. It’s Pink’s turn this time around. In a new interview, the rocker said “If I were writing a letter to Sarah Palin it would be a lot of whys and hows. Who are you? Do you know? Why do you hate animals? Please point out Iraq on a map … This woman hates women. She is not a feminist. She is not the woman that’s going to come behind Hillary Clinton and do anything that Hillary Clinton would’ve been capable of … I can’t imagine overturning Roe vs. Wade. She’s not of this time. The woman terrifies me.”

Barack Obama and Brad Pitt - Cousins!?

For those who didn’t hear it before, Joy Behar asked it for us on The View. She said to Barack Obama, presidential candidate, “I understand that you’re related to Brad Pitt, in some way.”

The claim was originally made by the New England Historic Genealogical Society, saying that Brad and Barack are distant cousins. They are related through a man named Edwin Hickman, who died in 1769 in Virginia.

Barack said, “I guess we’re ninth cousins, something, removed – or something. I think he got the better looking side of the gene pool.”

You have to admire his sense of humor!

Ben's Obama Benefit

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have been using the Hollywood clout to push for Barack Obama as the next US President. Last night, the two hit a benefit in Boston.

Ben was all excited about this particular benefit. No, not because he got to check out Teresa Heinz all night, but because he was hanging out with regular people. Ben said, “This isn’t come $1500 a plate event for the elite.” Instead, plates were only $50, or $250 for VIP.

Insiders say Ben won’t dog Hillary Clinton. He says, “This isn’t about casting aspersions.” He also won’t answer any questions about his own possible political aspirations. Hmm, maybe it’ll be President Affleck in a few years.

WaWa’s Tired of Hearing the Celebrities

Barbara Walters

Barbara Walters is a pioneer for women in journalism. She paved the way for many who have followed in her footsteps. Perhaps she is most famous for being able to convince celebrities to bear their very souls in an interview.

Now she says she just won’t do it anymore. This news came just before her annual showing of “The 10 Most Fascinating People”. It aired Thursday on ABC. She says, “I am not going after the tabloid stuff, I don’t do it.”

She would not include Britney or Paris in this special, she says, “abandoning the week in, week out, competition for getting the next name, the next person out of rehab.” Instead she chose real newsmakers like former President Clinton, the creators of “MySpace”, and Don Imus.

Doesn’t she realize that we don’t care what these people might say about foreign policy or the war? We wanna know the dirt. We wanna see the rehab patients. They make us feel good about ourselves!! C’mon Babs, honey, retire already.

China wins Miss World

New found Chinese beauty Zhang Zilin won the Miss World contest. This was a first in all Chinese history and yet there wasn’t big fuzz around the country about it.Due to recent governmental issues and to the strict political regime Chinese people live in, the great achievement of the young Chinese woman was not over mediatized…if anything it was almost covered up. Newspapers reported the news with a small pictures on the bottom of their front pages, while the headline article was one about AIDS awareness…TV reports were scarce…The only place where her achievement was properly appreciated by her compatriots was her blog on the internet, hosted by SINA.com. There millions of visitors entered right after she was announced as the winner and all tried to post and congratulate her.

Clooney for President!

Can you imagine having George Clooney as our president? If Brad Pitt has anything to do with it, Clooney will be the next President of the United States. I don’t know about having Clooney run the country but he should run for Governor of California–hey if Schwarzenegger can pull it off so can Clooney. I could see Clooney as a governor or senator. But not President! We had one actor as President…that’s enough. I am not really sure that I would vote for him. It depends I guess on his political standpoint and views and also what he is running for. I think he should stick to acting and help out with issues on the side. There are many other ways that he could make a difference to our country, he can completely leave his acting career and become a social worker and help improve the many deficiencies that plague our country, you do not need to sit with the law makers to show you care, just do it and make a difference.

Elton John Slams George Bush Over AIDS

elton-john-photo.jpg

Elton John has attacked the U.S. Government’s AIDS effort, dubbing it a waste of time and money. Yes – abstinence should be taught at home but we teach sex ed. and evolution in schools so why is this any different. You know what I say – when we were allowed to pray in our public schools and read out of the bible the world was a better place – and I don’t remember hearing about AIDS then….I feel very sorry for those who have this disease inflicted on them in which it’s not their fault – that’s an awful thing BUT those with AIDS because of their homosexuality – this is God’s way of saying you are not leading the life that he wants you to. Those people I don’t feel sorry for. SORRY! As far as President Bush – I don’t agree with everything he has done either BUT we are to pray for our President NOT BASH HIM which I know is alot easier to do for some people.

Michael Douglas Backs Hillary Clinton

michael-douglas-photo.jpg

Actor Michael Douglas has offered his support for Hillary Clinton in the 2008 presidential election. Douglas is well-known in Hollywood for his liberal views and work with the United Nations. I never thought that Michael would be supporting a candidate just coz she’s the wife of a former US President and a current Senator. Let me speak my mind hear, Ever since Geroge W Bush has taken over as the President of the United States of America I think the US political affairs and its international image has gone for a toss and gone from bad to worse. American people deserve better leadership and if Hillary or Obama become the President next year it would certainly be a new low for the country. The world needs leaders who limit the use of weapons and wars and can combine world power to create a safer environment for us to live in. Mr. Douglas kindly stop campaigning for Hillary and choose the right person to lead America.

Court temporarily suspends warrant for Gere

Posted on May 17, 2007 under Celebrity, News, Politics | No Comment

richard-gere.JPGIndia’s Supreme Court temporarily suspended on Tuesday an arrest warrant for actor Richard Gere, who was wanted for allegedly breaking public obscenity laws by kissing Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty.
Gere embraced and kissed Shetty on her cheek at a public AIDS awareness event in New Delhi last month, prompting Hindu hard-liners to allege the pair had offended the sensibilities of India’s traditionally conservative culture.
The case has grabbed headlines, although the allegations have failed to stir any wider outrage among Indians, most of whom have responded with either mocking bemusement or utter indifference.
Gere, 57, apologized for any offense he may have caused. But he also said the whole controversy was manufactured by a small hard-line political party.
Gere, who left shortly after the kiss, is a frequent visitor to India, promoting health issues and the cause of Tibetan exiles. The Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, has his headquarters in the northern Indian town of Dharmsala.
Shetty, a well-known actress in India, became an international star after her appearance on the British reality show “Celebrity Big Brother.”
A fellow contestant, Jade Goody, sparked international headlines by allegedly making racist comments to Shetty. The comments sparked public outrage in Britain and India and Shetty went on to win the competition.

Tribeca Festival Opens with Gore

Tribeca Festival Opens with GoreThe Tribeca Film Festival began this evening with an opening gala filled with gore, Al Gore that is. He’s all about the environment these days (It’s my guess that he’s moved on since inventing the Internet) and so his speech was all about connecting the entertainment industry to the issue of global warming. Having starred in the film “An Inconvenient Truth,” Al knows a thing or two about the problem.

The six day Tribeca Film Festival was founded after the September 11th attacks on New York as a way to rejuvenate Lower Manhattan. This year they premiered nine films by Save Our Selves, all of them about the climate change crisis. It seems to me that this is the new fad amongst our celebrities. I’m just amazed at how many of them have bought it. Give them a couple years, and they will be harping on the eroding beaches in Zimbabwe or some such. I guess no one likes to stand alone in political activism, but it’s the same with drinking.
