Michael Jackson’s ex-wife Debbie Rowe has reportedly won $27,000 in damages – after claiming a woman spread lies about her in the media.
According to reports, Rowe filed a lawsuit against Rebecca White after the latter gave interviews following the King of Pop’s death, claiming that Rowe had no interest in gaining custody of her children with Jackson.
White, who described herself as a “friend and confidante” of Jacko’s ex, also claimed that Rowe only cared about getting money from the Jackson family.
Rowe’s defamation lawsuit was filed in July last year, after White, from Key West, Florida, gave an interview to a US entertainment show.
Her “friend” never responded to the lawsuit and today a Los Angeles County judge entered a default judgment in the case.
Rowe, 51, was awarded $27,000 – which included $10,000 in damages for the emotional distress she allegedly suffered after White’s interview was televised.
At one point, it was reported that she was seeking almost $500,000, but she later lowered the amount.
TV cameras have been banned from capturing superstar Rihanna’s much-anticipated testimony at ex-boyfriend Chris Brown’s assault trail.
The Barbadian singer is expected to take to the stand during a preliminary hearing at Los Angeles Superior Court.
And although reporters will be allowed inside to hear the proceedings, the doors will stay firmly closed to cameras.
Los Angeles Criminal Court Judge Patricia Schnegg decided against allowing the showdown to be broadcast to the world.
Brown, 20, faces two felony counts of assault and making criminal threats against Rihanna after a pre-Grammy party in February.
However, if he reaches a plea agreement, the hearing would be unnecessary. Brown’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, has previously indicated he hoped to resolve the case without public testimony.
If it goes ahead, Rihanna – real name Robyn Fenty – could later be called as a witness in the high-profile trial.
What a year for Britney Spears! After a number of court appearances, recording an album and hitting the scene, it looks like she’s finally ready for the spotlight once again. Her long time manager Larry Rudolph seems to think so at least. He said “She’s definitely ready. She loves to work. She’s a very strong person. Everybody goes through setbacks in their lives. [But] every day, I see her getting happier and stronger.” Her musical comeback may be important but Larry says that his client has made it clear that motherhood comes first. He told a reporter “Her kids and balancing her life with her kids is an incredible priority – the No. 1 priority in terms of how I operate with her.”
Michael Jackson is trying to use a sick note to get out of testifying in London in a suit brought on against him by Arab sheikh Al Khalifa. The prince claimed in a lawsuit that Jacko owes him $7 million for a contract that the dethroned King of Pop never made good on. Jacko’s lawyer Robert Englehart says that it would be “unwise for him to travel, given what’s he’s got now” though he would not elaborate on what ails the singer. Khalifa’s lawyer is not buying it though calling the medical evidence unsatisfactory and pointing out that this isn’t the first time that Jacko tried to worm his way out of court.
British newspaper Daily Mail has one defamation lawsuit worth P1 million off its back thanks to the apology it issued to David
Duchovny. The lawsuit was filed by X-Files star Duchovny after the newspaper published an article last October 19 hinting that
Duchovny is having an affair with his tennis coach Edit Pakay.
Duchovny immediately filed a case versus the newspaper in a Los Angeles court. However, just last weekend, Daily Mail
issued a printed apology (addressed to Duchovny, Pakay and their families) for printing an “inaccurate” story. The newspaper said Duchovny and his tennis coach are clearly just friends and that Pakay is in no way responsible for the couple’s separation. Duchovny accepted the apology and as proof, dropped the defamation charges against the newspaper.
The issue was particularly sensitive for Duchovney considering that he has just separated from his wife Tea Leoni after being married for eleven years. They have two children ages 9 and 6. The couple blamed their separation on several things among them Duchovny’s addiction to sex for which he has undergone treatment. Incidentally, the 48-year old star got a Golden Globe for his Californication role as an over-sexed writer.
The 48-year-old X-Files star—who, ironically, won a Golden Globe this year for playing an over-sexed struggling writer on
Showtime’s Californication—has been married to Téa Leoni since May 1997. They have two children together, daughter
Madelaine West, 9, and son Kyd Miller, 6.
While the life in “Matrix” seemed difficult and tough for Keanu Reeves alias Neo, in fact it was not at all harsh as compared to his real life challenges.
After all Keanu Reeves was the hero in the movie but when it comes to real life, Reeves is just another person.

He was still Puff Daddy when they broke up. Now that he’s Diddy and she’s obviously moved on, Jennifer Lopez is going to have to back track and relive her most infamous night with him. The New York Post is reporting that JLo will be forced to testify in a $130 million lawsuit brought against the entertainment mogul after being served with a subpoena last week. The suit was brought by Natania Reuben, the woman who was shot in face during the 1999 nightclub shooting involving Diddy and Jamal ‘Shyne’ Barrow. Diddy was exonerated while Shyne is still serving time.

Sir Paul McCartney officially became a free man on Monday when a High Court judge officially terminated his union with Heather Mills. The judge pronounced a ‘decree nisi’ on the grounds that the couple has been separated for two years. Both parties were not in court to hear the declaration and their lawyers refused to comment after exiting the courtroom. Heather is now able to claim the $50 million she was awarded as part of the divorce settlement. He may officially be a free man but he’s losing a chunk of change he could use on a party to celebrate.
A federal judge ruled today that there is no reason to move Britney’s case to federal court. He rejected the civil rights challenge in regards to her conservatorship case. Instead, he allowed her father Jamie Spears to continued to maintain control of her estate.
U.S. District Judge Philip Gutierrez also sent a challenge to Jon Eardley who claims to be Britney’s representation. “Mr. Eardley fails to explain why he can bring this claim for her in the first instance. He cannot. Mr. Eardley had no authority to remove the case from state court. He is neither a party or a defendant. While he claims to be Ms. Spears’ attorney, the probate court…found that she was incapable of retaining her own counsel.”
I’m sure most of those firefighters, police, and paramedics hoped they’d seen the last of Britney. Not so fast, though….
All of those who responded to her home during her meltdown will have to testify Monday at her custody hearing. They were subpoenaed by K-Fed’s attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan.
As of right now, Britney is temporarily forbidden to visit her children. Monday’s court session will determine if that suspension will be continued. If so, she may not see them until April, when the actual custody trial starts.
Court cases, failed drug tests, hitting parked cars, running over paps and a policeman are seemingly not enough of a bad rep for Britney Spears. Now, she’s also sporting around what looks like a botched lip job.
The pop wreck was spotted driving and texting in Beverly Hills on Wednesday with what looks like red, inflamed and infected-looking lips. Either Dr. Jan Adams worked on her too or her lipstick got mixed with poison ivy somehow.
While we can blame Restylane injections for her lips, who or what can we blame for the bad skin and ugly nails? Get yourself together Brit!
Who hasn’t run a red light? C’mon honestly… Millions of people do, every year (some probably have their kids in the car too), and aren’t labeled bad parents, but then again, I suppose you’re only a bad parent if you are Britney Spears doing it and if TMZ.com’s scum are filming it from behind while another one of their photogs are popping flashes in your face from the front (to make sure that you can’t see the light). Setup perhaps? TMZ hired by team Kevin Federline? You decide… This whole thing is sick! I would never go so far as to pass judgment on anyone’s parenting skills or sanity for such a minor traffic infraction that was clearly an attempt to get away from the stalkerazzi… And for the record, if you have watched the video, you know the statement “she sped through the light” from the above article is completely bogus. Britney Spears drove through the intersection at a snail’s pace… They make it sound like she was practicing for the Indy 500. I think it’s high time that the media leave Britney and her family alone… Enough is enough.
Since Britney only has limited visitation rights, why should she be required to undergo drug test when she is not seeing the kids? Why is she required to standby 24/7 * 7 days for drug testing? Can anyone be always on standby 24/7 * 7 days, not even to mentioned just for drug testing? Are the judge and attorneys on 24/7 * 7 days for their client? Is a judge passing a ridiculous ruling and allow Mr Kfred and his attorney to abuse the court for personal financial gains again? Britney also has her own life to lead, move on from her disastrous divorce and deserves to be happy not just for the kids. Does any parents out there really dedicated their whole life for their kids to expect Britney to do that? Is Britney the goddess to set that example? The judge should slammed Mr Kfred and his attorney for using the court time and again, to humiliate an individual causing unnecessary stress, wasting court time for personal financial gains!
