Eminem Back on Top

Posted on Aug 24, 2010 under Billboard, Eminem, susan boyle | 1 Comment

After a bit of a detour to make room for Arcade Fire, Eminem, is back at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart. To date, the rapper’s album ‘Recovery’ has sold 2.1 million copies and no one since Susan Boyle has an artist spent so many weeks in the top spot. Eminem is also the only other artist, behind Lady Antebellum, to cross the double platinum line this year. Eminem should definitely be proud of that. At a time when the music industry is suffering, achieving double platinum status is definitely a big achievement. Congratulations on all the success!

Daltrey speaking to Billboard said that they are meaning to begin the tour in the second half of 2011. In contrast to his older belief that they will die before they get old, Daltrey now thinks that the role of an artist is to go on and on until he can’t do it anymore. He also said that they want to incorporate in their tour some parts of their 1973 rock opera Quadrophenia. They will probably do some updates, because they haven’t performed the songs since 1994. The bands last tour was in 2007 and they are very anxious about this upcoming tour.

Christina Aguilera Covers Billboard

Christina Aguilera is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Billboard magazine. The 29-year old powerhouse singer talks about what inspires her and how making hit songs isn’t what she’s in the music industry for. She said “There was actually a song that the label really wanted me to record, and I just said ‘no,’ because it didn’t fit on the album – it wasn’t creatively inspiring to me. They said, ‘It’s a hit, it’s a hit!’ And absolutely it’s a hit for someone. But it’s not for me, because when it jeopardizes my integrity too much I can’t do it. The hit thing… (sigh) ‘Who Let the Dogs Out’ was a f–king hit, you know what I mean?” However, not having a hit at all also jeopardizes your career.

Billboard is reporting that Joaquin Phoenix is creating an album with Tim Burgess of the English alternative rock band, The Charlatans. Burgess says “Once [Joaquin] learnt guitar [for the Johnny Cash film ‘Walk the Line’] he found that he had quite a lot of demons inside himself that he wanted to expel through music. All the tracks that me and [Charlatans’ manager Alan McGee] worked with him on were brilliant. But I think he just keep scrapping everything or re-doing everything. I’m sad to say that I think it’s one of those records that may never come out, to be honest with you. It’s an on-going thing. I’m trying to get Alan to force him to put it out at the moment, but I don’t know whether it will [get released].”
