The prime minister of Australia would be best off not schmoozing with celebrities if he wants to help the arts, says a political party.
“It is not enough for [Mr] Kevin Rudd to pose for photos alongside Cate Blanchett at every opportunity,” said Greens senator Christine Milne.
Rudd was seen buddying up with Blanchett at a brainstorming summit he held in the nation’s capital soon after entering office and clearly holds the actress in great admiration.
Blanchett, for her part, thought nothing of bringing along her days-old son Iggy to the summit in order to keep her date in the corridors of power.
“If he wants a truly thriving, healthy Australian arts industry, stop procrastinating and put the matter to rest,” Milne chastised.
She wanted Rudd to stand by the book import restrictions that are currently rattling Australia’s book publishing industry and dividing its Cabinet.

Actress Kate Beckinsale has claimed not being able to drive is like a “handicap” or “disability” and complained her summer in England was spent “dodging swine flu and vacuuming flies”.
The LA-based Brit beauty told of her struggle to get her driver’s license in America and how she has to pretend to drive in movies when she appeared on a US chat show.
She told host Ellen DeGeneres: “They drag me along on another vehicle.
“It’s like a handicap. It’s like a disability.”
Kate admitted she has failed the written test needed to get a licence and complained the US highway code is an “incredibly boring book” and that she gets “overwhelmed” by the details.
The Whiteout star also revealed she had a miserable summer back home in England.
She said: “I didn’t really have a summer summer. My daughter and I went back to England.
“We went from Easter until June, so we had a really long time there – just in time for the swine flu epidemic, which wasn’t great. Very relaxing.”
She added: “It was just sort of rocketing then so loads of people we know were getting it.
“My best friend’s kids both had it. It was quite an ordeal.”
Kate told how she also had to battle against flies, saying: “I realised if you left the windows open where we were staying lots of tiny little flies would come.
“I spent most of my time in England dodging swine flu and vacuuming flies of the ceiling.
“It wasn’t the best summer for me.”

Russell Brand left a U.S TV host hot under the collar as he offered to end her period of celibacy.
The British comic flirted openly with Sherri Shepherd on The View and told her sex with him would ‘make [her] forget her own name’.
“You look nice,” Brand said, rubbing Shepherd’s leg.
“I like these gladiator-style shoes you are wearing and I like your legs.
“Now, I understand you have been celibate for a while – when are you giving that up?”
A blushing Shepherd fired back: “Don’t start something you can’t finish, Russell.”
Brand put his hand on her arm and said: “I assure you this is an area in which I am not bluffing.
“I will take care of you, I will make you see multi-coloured, I will make you forget your own name – it will be wonderful.
“She seems quite keen, you have got all dressed up, you have got all worked up, now come on.
“You are a very professional group of women – and I feel a combination of relaxed and aroused in your company.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who, like Shepherd, is African-American, then chimed in and asked Brand: “Have you ever had a sister?”
Brand laughed and shot back: “Yeah. In London, we are all at it. Loads and loads, since I was young, like 16.”

Actor David Arquette has asked his wife Courteney Cox and her Cougar Town co-stars to help donate to his charity fundraising.
Arquette, 37, is travelling the US as a spokesperson for the Cheesecake Factory’s Drive Out Hunger Tour, which aims to collect 100,000 cans of soup to support local food banks.
As Arquette was driving through Los Angeles as part of the appeal, he reportedly stopped at the ABC network’s studios to collect donations from his actress wife, Cox, 45.
But the former Friends star was not the only celebrity to contribute to the appeal – Arquette also managed to get donations at the studios from Cox’s Cougar Town co-star Busy Philipps and Scrubs star Zach Braff.

Rumer Willis reckons that girls don’t like her.
The actress, daughter of A-listers Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, said that she had always got on better with men.
And she said her Sorority Row co-stars, including Audrina Patridge, were her only gal-pals.
She said: “The girls are probably my only girlfriends in LA now. Girls don’t like me very much – I’m not sure why.
“I’ve always gotten along better with guys.”
She added: “You do a movie with some girls, then later you’re all auditioning for the same parts and it starts getting catty, but we’re all unbelievably supportive of each other.”
Rumer, 21, said she was far from being a wild child.
She told Now magazine: “I’m such a stay at home Betty Crocker! I’ve started baking pies. It’s fun and I figure I’ve got to learn to cook at some time in my life.”
Speaking of her relationship with her stepdad Ashton Kutcher she said: “I respect him and regard him as a parental figure. He’s unbelievably smart, a great guy.”

Demi Moore has denied she has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on plastic surgery.
For years, rumours have been swirling around Hollywood that the star had spent more than $200,000 to look so youthful.
But the 47-year-old mum of three has hit out at the rumours and insists: “It’s completely false – I’ve never had it done.”
Moore said: “I would never judge those who have. If it’s the best thing for them, then I don’t see a problem.
“But I don’t like the idea of having an operation to hold up the ageing process. It’s a way to combat your neurosis. The scalpel won’t make you happy.”
But Moore, who is married to actor Ashton Kutcher 31, revealed she did not rule out ever having surgery: “The day I start crying when I look at myself in the mirror might be the day when I’m less adamant about not having it done.
“For now, I prefer to be a beautiful woman of my age than try desperately to look 30.”

Twilight star Kristen Stewart nearly gave up acting after auditioning constantly for a year and not getting any parts, she has revealed.
Stewart, who has shot to fame for her role as Bella Swan in the vampire movie sagas, started acting when she was just nine years old.
In her pre-teens, the actress, now 19, auditioned continuously for a year without getting booked to do a single job.
She said: “It took a really long time until I was totally over it, and then came my last audition. I went to it and I didn’t even want to. My mum said: ‘Well, this is the last one. You don’t have to go to any more.’
“And that was the first movie I got.”
Stewart’s first film role was in the 2001 flick The Safety Of Objects.
Despite being such a huge star these days, Stewart insists that people don’t recognise her.
She said: “I think I just look different in person or something. I’m also not very approachable.”
However, on film sets it is a different story. Just like her dishy co-star Robert Pattinson, Stewart has to film her scenes under a massive umbrella to deter the crowds of paparazzi and fans trying to get close to the two stars.
The second Twilight film, New Moon, is due to hit UK cinemas in November.

Jerry O’Connell has revealed he and wife Rebecca Romijn feel having two children is more than enough.
The 35-year-old is dad to seven-month-old twin daughters, Charlie and Dolly, and he has admitted that they are a handful.
He said: “The hardest thing is being in a public place like a store or a restaurant – or on your wife’s TV show set! – and smelling a number two, and knowing it’s one of your children.”
The Baby On Board star visited his wife Rebecca Romijn, 36, on the set of her TV show Eastwick.
He said: “I went to my wife’s work yesterday, and she was in the middle of a very dramatic scene.
“And I had the kids there, and one of them was like: ‘Bwaaahhh!’”
He added: “I thought it was funny, but I don’t think the director did, so I got the heck out of there.
“I had a long talk with the girls about show business, but I don’t think they had any idea what the heck I was talking about.”
Although O’Connell loves his two little daughters, he revealed that he and his wife don’t want any more babies. “Now we’re just adopting dogs,” he said.

Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts will not be shooting new movie Eat, Pray, Love in the same ashram where the real-life author stayed.
Roberts, 41, will be playing the role of author Elizabeth Gilbert, who stayed in an ashram (retreat) in India to find her spirituality.
However, it has now been claimed Roberts will film in another ashram on Delhi-Jaipur National Highway 8, which is close to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
She will reportedly stay in a hotel near to the airport as she is working 12 hours a day and reportedly wants to stay near to the set.

Anna, 27, is currently starring in HBO vampire series True Blood as Sookie Stackhouse and she revealed she was treated differently when she dyed her hair blonde for the role.
She said: “I really didn’t think people would[treat her any different], but people stare at blonde girls. I also discovered my hair grows really fast.
“As I have natural dark hair, even the tiniest bit of roots shows up. I am not really a big fan of sitting still for the hairdresser once every 10 days for a couple of hours. It makes me feel really vain and nutty.”

According to a report from The Daily Beast, Michael Jackson’s good friend Elizabeth Taylor had a role in his early dependencies, as the retired actress introduced the late singer to dermatologist Arnold Klein. When the King of Pop met the doctor, Elizabeth was battling her own prescription drug and alcohol problem. Due to treatment for alleged vitiligo, which causes skin depigmentation, and residual pain from his 1984 accident while shooting a Pepsi ad, Dr. Klein reportedly provided Michael with drugs, which began to snowball into addiction. Michael was warned by confidantes about the dangers of his relationship with Elizabeth because she was enabling him and never encouraged him to get better because she was having the same problems.

90210 star AnnaLynne McCord has revealed she can’t wait for Rumer Willis to join the cast on an upcoming episode of the hit show – because she has a ‘girl crush’ on her famous mother Demi Moore.
McCord, 21, gushed: “I’m very happy to have her, I have met Rumer once or twice and she is very sweet.
“I think she’s awesome and obviously, you know, I kind of have a girl crush on her mom so its good to have her.”
Willis’s mother is Demi Moore, the former wife of her dad Bruce Willis.
Adding to the girl theme of McCord’s excitement is the fact that Rumer is set to play a punky lesbian named Gia.
McCord also discussed another new cast member, former US soap star Trevor Donovan, who she calls a ‘hunky young Robert Redford’.
She added: “He is the new hunk in town. It was so funny because we all read the description obviously in the first episode and it was like ‘a young Robert Redford’ and we were like: ‘Who are they going to get for this?’
“Those are kind of big shoes to fill. Robert Redford. Are you kidding me? So we walk on set and the wind is blowing and he is like popping tennis balls and he looks just like a young Robert Redford.
“And we were like: ‘Wow, they did pretty good’.”

Harry Potter stars Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have spoken about their on-screen kisses.
Fans will finally see Emma, 19, who plays Hermione Granger and Rupert, 20, who plays Ron Weasley, kiss in the final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Talking about the embrace, Emma said: “I pounced on him, I was so desperate to get it over with.”
She added: “It was quite exciting to be back and to know that this film was going to be more of a romantic comedy than ever before.”
The sixth film in the wizard series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, is out in cinemas soon and Rupert gets to kiss actress Jessie Cave, who plays the role of Lavender Brown.
Speaking about that kiss, Rupert said: “It was really enjoyable actually. I had only met Jessie twice when we had to film our first kiss. There was a roomful of people, so it was a little bit embarrassing to start off with – but it was good fun.”
Emma plans to go off to university in the US later this year when shooting finishes on the final film.
She said: “I’m not ‘escaping’ or anything like that. I think I’m just looking forward to being a normal teenager, meeting people my own age. I’m very excited about university, but it doesn’t mean I’m never going to act again.”

The Proposal star Ryan Reynolds says he didn’t take his naked role in his new film too seriously.
Ryan, 32, plays an office worker in the movie who is bullied into marrying his boss, played by Sandra Bullock, to save her from being deported back to Canada.
The actor has to appear naked in one of the scenes but says he took it in his stride.
He said: “Well, it’s meant to be funny rather than sexy, so I wasn’t too nervous.”
Ryan added: “There’s nothing I could say about that without coming over like a complete fool. I absolutely don’t take it seriously, if I did I would request that you end my life with fire.”
But Ryan admitted filming a scene featuring a “plot-turning” kiss was “awkward”.
Asked how the scene was to shoot, he said: “Difficult! A kiss like that when you know somebody is borderline awkward, but at that stage I’d already filmed the scene where I slammed into her wearing nothing but deodorant.”

Sienna Miller has revealed she has recently become “green-fingered” and is spending more time in her garden.
The 27-year-old actress has recently shot her new film GI Joe and admitted that in her spare time she likes nothing more than spending time in the garden.
She said: “I love cooking and I’ve got a cottage in the country, and I’m planting a vegetable patch and a garden, so I’ve just become green-fingered recently.
“I want my place to be kind of self-sufficient, so that’s what I’ve been working on, and that’s been really relaxing. I love having the balance of that in the life that we lead because it can get a little crazy.
“Just hanging out with friends and my family and normal things. I don’t skydive or anything.”

Ugly Truth star Katherine Heigl has admitted she has an opinion on everything – and that no topic is off-limits.
Katherine Heigl, 30, is married to musician Josh Kelley, and is known for her no-hold-barred comments.
Asked if there’s anything she won’t comment on, she said: “Nothing, actually, though people misunderstand that. Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of c**p from people thinking I shouldn’t have an opinion.”
But the Grey’s Anatomy star admitted that despite being outspoken, she cannot bear the thought of people disliking her
“I want everyone to love me, I’m a girl – I want everyone to think I’m great,” she said.
The former model is best known on the big screen for her rom-com roles in movies such as Knocked Up and 27 Dresses, and admitted that she is happy making feel-good films for the time being.
She said: “I know I’m catching some c**p for it, but I really like doing them. People keep asking me if I want to do anything more serious… and I do, but I’m not quite there yet.”

Elizabeth Taylor is “inconsolable” over the death of close pal Michael Jackson.
The screen legend is said to have been “screaming in her house” after the singer passed away in Los Angeles in Thursday.
And friends are now worried that the frail 77-year-old is putting her own health at risk with her grief.
Respected gossip columnist Cindy Adams reports: “[She] is making herself so ill over Michael’s passing that her people now worry about her future.”
The actress was reportedly planning to attend Jackson’s opening concert on his comeback tour in London.
Adams said: “She was to leave July 8 on a private plane in a wheelchair with nurses and assistants in attendance.
“In fact, early the very morning he died she called the people whose plane it was for permission to bring another person onboard.”

Iconic actress Farrah Fawcett looked "beautiful" in the moments before she died, according to her close pal.
Mela Murphy, Farrah’s friend and hairdresser, was one of only four people present at the former Charlie’s Angels star’s hospital bedside before her death, on Thursday.
Alongside Farrah’s long-term partner Ryan O’Neal, her doctor and another close friend, she watched as the 62-year-old drew her last breaths at St John’s Health Centre, in Santa Monica, California.
"I’m so glad I was with her," Murphy told Radaronline.com. "She looked beautiful. She is beautiful and she has left a wonderful legacy."
Mela was one of Farrah’s closest supporters during her long and courageous cancer battle.
She said she is overcome with grief and devastated that Farrah lost her fight.
Choking back tears, she added: "It fills me with so much emotion. But I am glad that she called me her friend and allowed me to be there with her."
In addition to Mela, Ryan O’Neal, Alana Stewart and Dr. Lawrence Piro were with Farrah when she died.

Transformers star Megan Fox has admitted she is more of a comedian than a sex symbol.
Megan, 23, stars alongside Shia LaBeouf, also 23, in the new action flick.
She is regularly compared to Angelina Jolie, 34, and the star said she doesn’t think she is that similar to the actress.
She said: “I think there is a slight lack of creativity from the media on that one. I get that I’m tattooed and I have dark hair, but she is like a living tigress.
“She’s this angular, very sexual, aggressive woman. She’s like a warrior princess. People try to sell me as that, like I’m a femme fatale, but I’m not.
“I’m actually really silly. I’m more of a comedian than I am a sex symbol.”
