Cory Monteith won Glee audition with drumming skills
Posted on May 12, 2010 under Actors, Glee | No CommentCory Monteith has said how he wowed the Glee producers with his drumming rather than singing.
The 28-year-old actor videoed himself drumming in his manager’s office and sent it off to producers as his audition tape.
And rather than performing on an actual drum kit, he kept a beat on items he found lying around the talent agency’s building.
“My manager suggested that instead of singing, I show them my musical abilities by playing the drums,” he told US chatshow host Ellen DeGeneres.
“She suggested that for the audition, I play the drums on what we had at the agency, which was coffee mugs, Tupperware and unsharpened pencils.”
The unconventional audition tape worked a treat and Canadian-born Monteith was invited to Los Angeles, California, to audition in person.
He was offered the role of Finn Hudson, which he took, just 30 minutes after leaving Fox Studios.
Monteith recreated his audition for Ellen, who provided him with crockery, wine glasses, Tupperware boxes and a pair of drum sticks.
But he was less forthcoming when quizzed about his rumoured romance with country pop star Taylor Swift. “We’re just friends,” he laughed.
