Tribeca Festival Opens with Gore

The Tribeca Film Festival began this evening with an opening gala filled with gore, Al Gore that is. He’s all about the environment these days (It’s my guess that he’s moved on since inventing the Internet) and so his speech was all about connecting the entertainment industry to the issue of global warming. Having starred in the film “An Inconvenient Truth,” Al knows a thing or two about the problem.

The six day Tribeca Film Festival was founded after the September 11th attacks on New York as a way to rejuvenate Lower Manhattan. This year they premiered nine films by Save Our Selves, all of them about the climate change crisis. It seems to me that this is the new fad amongst our celebrities. I’m just amazed at how many of them have bought it. Give them a couple years, and they will be harping on the eroding beaches in Zimbabwe or some such. I guess no one likes to stand alone in political activism, but it’s the same with drinking.
